According Vikings Coach Mike Zimmer, the buck stops in Minnesota for Adrian Peterson. He laid down the gauntlet today stating that Adrian Peterson has “two choices: he can play for us or NOT play.” That doesn’t leave too much wiggle room for the embattled running back.
Obviously Peterson was skipping the OTA’s because he wants a trade, but Zimmer drew his line in the sand for all to see. Peterson is under contract through 2018 and will be paid a pretty penny for each consecutive year he plays with the team, if he decides to play.
The Vikings obviously need their stud running back to aid in the progression of second-year quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater and be a game-changer out of the backfield. The Vikings didn’t make a trade or take a running back in the 2015 draft anticipating the return of Peterson. Now the franchise is on pins and needles waiting to see what Peterson will decide.
