The St. Louis Rams are not sharing any information on the health of their premier running back, Zach Stacy. Stacy suffered a concussion that forced him from the team’s game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Stacy has been one of the biggest surprises this season, rushing for 624 yards on 141 carries and four touchdowns in just nine games.
Before exiting the game, Stacy had been picking apart the Chicago defense, compiling 87 rushing yards and one touchdown on just 12 attempts. In his absence, fellow rookie running back Benny Cunningham stepped in and recorded 109 yards and a single touchdown on 13 carries, averaging an impressive 8.4 yards per carry.
With the NFL and the NFL Players Association buckling down on concussion protocol, Stacy’s return to the playing field could be prolonged. He is officially listed as day to day, but will have to pass several baseline tests in order to return to action.
In his absence, Cunningham has shown, at least against a poor Chicago defense, that he can take over the starting workload. Fantasy owners should monitor Stacy’s progress throughout the week and definitely try to secure Cunningham off the waiver wire, as he could be the difference maker on your team as the playoffs near.
