With many fantasy leagues’ playoffs starting two weeks from now, every lineup decision is becoming more and more crucial. If you’re on the brink of making the playoffs, check your roster to see if you are starting any of the following WRs who should be benched this week.
Benching of the Week – Mike Wallace, Miami Dolphins
Mike Wallace is now becoming a regular on this feature. As Wallace continues to struggle, fantasy owners keep unwisely starting the disappointing wide receiver (43% in NFL.com leagues). He has not topped 100 yards receiving since Week 5 and has one touchdown on the season. Failing to top 40 yards in either of the past two weeks, Wallace’s fortunes don’t get any better against an elite looking Carolina Panthers defense. Don’t expect much from Wallace this week.
Keenan Allen, San Diego Chargers
Keenan Allen has been a pleasant surprise for the Chargers and fantasy owners, but the rookie has been slowed a little the past couple of weeks. Allen has not topped 50 yards receiving in either of the past two weeks, and hasn’t scored in that period of time either. While Allen is a solid piece for the fantasy playoffs, owners may want to look elsewhere this week. The Chargers face off against the Kansas City Chiefs, who boast a top 10 passing defense. If you have a receiver with a better matchup, make the switch.
Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers
While you probably don’t have a better option than Antonio Brown, his addition to this week’s list is a testament of how well Browns cornerback Joe Haden has been playing this year. With the Steelers traveling to Cleveland to take on the Browns, Brown has the pleasure of facing off against arguably the league’s top corner.
Haden has been outstanding this year, most recently holding AJ Green to a total of 7 yards last week. If you have the option to take Brown out of your lineup this week, do it. Otherwise, you may have to bite the bullet and deal with Haden blanketing Brown all day long.
