Bengals running back Giovani Bernard was forced out of his Week 9 matchup against the Dolphins due to a rib injury. Bernard was spotted practicing on a limited basis this week which bodes well for his status this Sunday against Baltimore.
The Baltimore Ravens defense has been tough against running backs this season allowing just one touchdown on the ground and giving up only 1 run over 20 yards. The matchup does slightly bring down the rookies value.
Bernard comes out of a 2013 draft class that is dominant at the running back position. With fellow outstanding rookies Eddie Lacy, Zac Stacy, Andre Ellington and LeVeon Bell, Bernard has his work cut out for him to win the title of offensive rookie of the year but is most likely the favorite.
The former North Carolina Tar Heel has shown explosiveness in both the run and pass game. His ability makes people miss after the catch will keep him relevant against the tough matchup.
The injury could limit Bernard’s reps but he does have a few extra days to heal coming off a Thursday night game. Monitor Bernard’s progress up until Sunday’s game. As long as there are no setbacks, consider him a good flex in Baltimore on Sunday.
