Broncos tight end Julius Thomas was back on the practice field this week and will play in Denver’s Week 10 matchup against the San Diego Chargers. Thomas was sidelined during Week 8’s bout against the Redskins after hurting his ankle early in the 3rd quarter.
Things couldn’t have gone better in Thomas’ short road to recovery, but his clean bill of health is not a guarantee that Week 10 will be ‘The Thomas Show” in San Diego. The Chargers do not boast a stingy pass defense, but have been pretty productive in shutting down opposing tight ends.
Visiting tight ends are only averaging 6.25 points per week against the Bolts; putting them 8th in the NFL at guarding that position. They have also not allowed a tight end to reach the end zone since Week 1.
Despite San Diego’s success against his position, Julius Thomas is still a viable starter for fantasy owners during Week 10. Thomas has scored 8 times in 8 games this season and is averaging approximately 5 catches for 56 yards a game.
The fact that he has Peyton Manning’s trust and arm on his side are also contributing factors putting Thomas in a position to succeed. Week 10 offers a challenge to the 3rd year tight end, but Julius Thomas is back and healthy.
Thomas will be looking to pick up where he left off before the Broncos bye week. Also keep in mind that the Broncos left off averaging over 40 points per game. There will undoubtedly be opportunity spiraling toward Thomas on Sunday.
