FOX Sports is reporting that Doug Martin suffered a torn labrum and will miss the remainder on the season. Martin has been a complete fantasy bust this season, so this is not a serious blow to fantasy owners. The Buccaneers season has been a complete disaster and this is just the icing on the cake.
For all intents and purposes, this is the final nail in the coffin for the 0-6 the Buccaneers and “tough guy” coach Greg Schiano.
The Bucs have a short week ahead as they will take on the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football game. Many fantasy owners will be on the lookout for Martin’s backup, rookie running back Mike James. James finished yesterday’s contest with 14 carries for 45 yards and three catches for eight yards.
James will receive a majority of the carries in Martin’s absence and is definitely worth the pick up in fantasy leagues. The Bucs will continue to employ a balanced offense, so James can expect a healthy work load in Martin’s absence.
