Coming out of their Week 6 bye, the Atlanta Falcons and head coach Mike Smith were hopeful that they would be getting back MIA running back Steven Jackson to help turn around a disappointing season. However, as the week continues, Jackson is still being held of practice and his status for Week 7 is currently up in the air.
Jackson has not been able to play since Week 2 when he suffered a hamstring injury. At the time, the injury was not thought to be serious enough to cost him more than a couple of weeks, but the injury is now frustrating the team as well as Jackson himself. Jackson had always been a reliable back, but may now miss his fourth straight week of action.
While it’s still pretty early in the week, it is troubling to see Jackson remain on the sideline when many thought he would be ready to go by now. The coming days will be telling about whether or not Jackson will be ready for Week 7, but the initial prognosis this week is not good.
If Jackson is unable to play, Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling will continue to carry the load for the Falcons.
For Jackson fantasy owners, this news is nothing new and has become a cruel joke throughout the season. With the lack of depth at the running back position this year, Jackson’s injury has most likely been a major blow to many owners who drafted Jackson as their second back. With one more week of rest, Jackson may finally see the field again come Week 8.
