Head Coach Gary Kubiak claims that Texans quarterback Matt Schaub will continue to be their starter even after his string of poor performances. However, if he continues to put up underwhelming numbers, he will put himself in jeopardy of losing his starting job as soon as next week.
Houston’s demoralizing 29-3 Sunday night loss to the 49ers marked a record-setting fourth straight game Schaub threw an interception and had it returned for a touchdown. After throwing his third interception of the night, Schaub was benched, bringing in back-up T.J. Yates to finish the game. Yates failed to make much of an impact either going 3-5 with 15 yards, but the Texans may have no choice but to rely on him moving forward if Schaub doesn’t pick up the slack.
Matt Schaub has thrown 9 interceptions to only 8 touchdowns through their first 5 games, sporting a less than impressive 2-3 record. Coach Kubiak may be committed to Schaub at the moment, but Houston’s Week 6 contest with the Rams could make or break his confidence in his current starter.
The St. Louis Rams rank 17th in pass defense allowing 256.4 passing yards per contest and Week 6 is a great chance for Schaub to regain some of his confidence.
