Matt Cassel Makes Vikings Debut Against Steelers

The Vikings have named Matt Cassel the Week 4 starter against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ponder is out with a broken rib and his return date has yet to be determined. The game takes place in London inside Wembley Stadium as the NFL continues to place a game once a year overseas. Ponder’s broken ribs came during last week’s home loss to the Browns.

Ponder attempted to practice the last two days, but could not turn the corner on his rib injury. Coach Leslie Frazier decided to keep him out of Sunday’s game for fear of further injury. After the game against the Steelers, the Vikings have a bye week and this time off may give Ponder the time he needs to heal in order to play during Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers.

The passing game could open up in Minnesota with a more polished quarterback like Matt Cassel. If Cassel can find a decent rhythm, it may help the fantasy stock of Vikings receivers like Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson.
