Tampa Bay Buccaneers lead wide receiver Vincent Jackson should not be counted on for a strong performance against the Arizona Cardinals this week. Jackson’s rib injury, a new starting quarterback and a tough opposing cornerback will all be problematic for the talented receiver.
Jackson is in for a tough game against the Cardinals, and will have a tough time dealing with standout defensive back Patrick Peterson. Peterson has established himself as a shutdown corner, and has the ability to limit Jackson, especially while dealing with a rib injury.
To make matters worse, quarterback Josh Freeman has been benched. Jackson will have to quickly get acclimated with rookie replacement Mike Glennon in time for Sunday, just four days after the announcement of Tampa’s decision to make the switch.
Jackson has played well putting up decent numbers with 265 yards off of 15 receptions in his first 3 games. All of this despite his team’s 31st ranking in passing yards. However, he has many obstacles in his way in order to be successful in Week 4, decreasing his fantasy value significantly.
Eventually his bruised ribs will heal, and he should build good rapport with quarterback Mike Glennon, but the timetable for this situation to improve is still quite uncertain. Think of Jackson as a low-end wide receiver #2 if he is able to suit up on Sunday.
