Danny Amendola looked like the Patriots’ saving grace in Week 1, catching 10 passes for more than 100 yards and showing some serious heart while battling through a groin injury. However, New England’s moment of relief from an injury plagued start to 2013 quickly came to an end when Amendola hobbled off the field, clearly favoring his previously injured groin. Since then, the reports on the 27 year old receiver have gone from questionable to down right daunting.
The day after their week 1 victory over the Bills, the Patriots said that Amendola was likely to be a game time decision for week 2. The following day, we realized that Week 2 was a “pipe dream” and he may not play again until Week 7 or 8. Talk about things going downhill.
The Patriots, and especially Tom Brady, looked like they were really missing Amendola on Thursday night against the Jets. The more passes that got dropped, the more angry Brady got.
Amendola has had injury problems throughout his career, but the Patriots were really banking on him to stay healthy for longer than just ONE GAME. His brilliant performance last Thursday only adds insult to injury, now the team knows just how much they are missing with him off the field.
Belichick and company will have to remain patient and hopeful for his return. Unfortunately, the extent of Amendola’s injury and his timetable for return, are “impossible to predict” at this time.
