The Broncos vs Ravens game Thursday night left fantasy players scrambling to pickup Denver tight-end Julius Thomas. The third-year player had 4 receptions for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns in the first half during the Broncos Week 1 smack down over the Ravens. Just a few days before last night’s game, Fantasy Buzzer selected Thomas as one this season’s “Secret Weapon Tight Ends.”
But just who is Julius Thomas? Prior to this game, he only had one career reception in the NFL. But during the offseason, Thomas impressed his coaches in camp and the preseason enough to win the starting tight-end position. However, more questions than answers surrounded Thomas after he was arrested earlier this week for blowing off a court appearance.
Thomas failed to show up in court for a March 21st court hearing for a traffic ticket. On August 28th, he was given another ticket for speeding, which brought out the fact that he missed his earlier court date. He’s now scheduled to return to court September 12th.
Although they are minor infractions on Thomas’ part, fantasy owners should pay attention to how the Broncos coaching staff reacts to his arrest. There is a chance he is suspended briefly by the team, if even for a quarter in an upcoming game.
In the meantime, Thomas snagged two of Peyton Manning’s 7 touchdowns Thursday night. If Thomas is still somehow sitting in your leagues waiver-wire, do yourself a favor and pick him up as fast as you can.
