Wes Welker fantasy owners are starting to feel the love again now that it looks like the newly acquired wide receiver should be close to 100% for the season opener against Baltimore. His mid right ankle sprain is improving on a daily basis and head coach John Fox says the slot receiver could be ready to go if there was a regular-season game tomorrow.
The preseason is a great time for new teammates to come together and get comfortable with each playing style. This isn’t a big concern a couple of proven veterans like Welker and quarterback Peyton Manning. Welker returned to practice last week on a limited basis, but should start ramping up soon.
Wes Welker is currently being drafted in most 12 team PPR leagues in the middle of the 5th round. With Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker on the roster, expect Welker to lose some of his production from last year.
Welker will still have great weeks playing in Denver, but will likely fall short of last season’s 175 targets and 118 receptions. With an ADP of 67.2, you will see him being drafted in the same group of players like DeSean Jackson and Steve Smith.
While Welker’s numbers are likely to fall off a bit, he is still a top-flight receiver who should not be ignored on draft day.
