Redskins Backup Kirk Cousins Should be Ready for Week I

The 2013 Washington Redskins preseason sure doesn’t seem like the place to be if you’re a young quarterback.

Star quarterback Robert Griffin III won’t see any preseason action as he waits for his knee to heal (hopefully) in time for Week 1. And to make matters worse, backup quarterback Kirk Cousins is keeping him company on the sidelines with a sprained right foot.

Cousins went down on Monday, after taking a hit from Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons. He will likely be held out of Saturday’s preseason game against the Bills.

During his preseason debut, Cousins went 6/7 for 52 yards and a touchdown in his only two drives. Despite the confident messages from RGIII, there’s still a chance that he won’t be good to go in week 1. If this proves to be the case, Cousins should be ready to step in.
