Wes Welker might be the newest addition to the Broncos receiving core, but he and Peyton Manning are meshing like long lost friends. Manning and Welker started Saturday night’s preseason game against Seattle on fire with three hookups and a touchdown before Welker had to leave the game with a sprained ankle.
The rumor mill was working overtime in Denver and speculation about the extent of Welker’s injury was rampant. Bronco fans and fantasy owners held their collective breath until the word came out that Welker’s sprain was just “mild” and that he would be listed as day-to-day.
Welker had 100 or more catches in five of his six season playing in New England. The Broncos have Mile-High expectations for Welker in Denver and he is expected to be 100% healthy for the start of the regular season. Even when he does return to practice, there’s no guarantee that we will see him again during the preseason.
