Demaryius Thomas of the Denver Broncos is the 6th ranked wide receiver in this year’s 2013 fantasy draft standings. With an Average Draft Position (ADP) of 23, he’s likely to be a late second or early third round selection.
Barring injury, Thomas should be a top 5 wide receiver and possibly even a bit higher. Thomas developed an extraordinary connection with quarterback Peyton Manning during their first season together. Thomas hauled in 94 receptions for 1434 yards to go along with 10 touchdowns in 2012 (all totals greater than his first two seasons combined).
At this point, Thomas is only getting better and is reportedly enjoying the best training camp of his career. If he continues to improve, there’s little question that he might be considered a top 3 fantasy wideout by season’s end.
Thomas should see less double coverage now with the addition of former Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker. Now with Welker, Thomas and Eric Decker in the receiver corps, defenses are not going to be able to put too much extra coverage on anyone in particular.
Thomas should benefit the most due to his outstanding athleticism and the fact that he happens to have been Manning’s favorite target just a season ago. Don’t be surprised if Thomas puts up one of, if not the best numbers of any receiver in the NFL in 2013. Thomas should be drafted in the beginning or middle of the second round in standard 12 team fantasy formats.
