Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure is currently battling Joique Bell to see who will assume the role of backup to starter Reggie Bush during the upcoming season. The 23-year-old Leshoure will see his role diminish greatly from last season after being thrust into the starting lineup in last year.
During the 2012 season, Leshoure racked up 798 yards and nine touchdowns on 215 carries, along with 34 receptions for 214 yards.
Despite the addition of Reggie Bush, which almost certainly secures Leshoure as a “role player” in the Lions offense, the 2011 second-round draft pick says this has been his most productive training camp since he entered the league.
“I’m getting my legs back up under me after last year and I feel good,” Leshoure said. “I’m feeling like this is my best camp as far as my body is and just feeling good.”
Consider Leshoure a low end #4 or high end #5 running back who won’t play a prominent role unless Bush goes down with an injury.
