The Cleveland Browns have a tough task ahead of them this season. Trying to compete with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the much improved Cincinnati Bengals and the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens is already an uphill battle. If they have any chance for success this season, they will need their young, talented running back Trent Richardson in top form.
Last season, Richardson was taken number three overall by the Browns and had an immediate impact. The former Alabama running back was just 50 yards shy of hitting a thousand yard mark during his rookie season. He gave the Browns offense an identity, something that the team has been lacking for several years.
Injuries have slowed his pace slightly, he had knee surgery last year and already has a nagging shin injury this season. Cleveland is taking things slowly with Richardson and he’s not expected to play in Thursday’s preseason game against the Lions.
T-Rich returned to practice on Sunday, which is a good sigh for Browns fans. The team reported that Richardson is still on track to start this year’s regular season’s opener against the Dolphins on September 8th.
