Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress suffered a possible career ending injury when he tore his rotator cuff during practice on Thursday. He was attempting to make a catch over two defenders when he got injured and had to be carted off the field.
Burress turns 36-years-old in a couple of days and has very little chance of ever playing professional football again. The once dominant veteran is really a shadow of his former self. He played in just 4 games last season pulling in 3 catches for 42 yards and a touchdown. The Steelers took a chance signing their former superstar last season, and it clearly showed little reward.
A torn rotator is a tough injury for a young player to bounce back from, the odds of coming back at 36 are astronomical.
These next few weeks in practice and preseason would have been his chance to prove to coaches he’s every bit as good as he once was, but that will never happen now. He was never really a fantasy option to begin with and now his career is all but over.
