Washington Redskins’ Robert Griffin III is the 10th ranked quarterback in this year’s 2013 fantasy draft standings. With an Average Draft Position (ADP) of 65, he’s likely to be taken in the sixth round of standard 12-person fantasy drafts.
The 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year passed for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions last season. RGIII’s most impressive stat, especially to fantasy owners, was his 826 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns.
His remarkable rookie season ended on a dark note in the playoffs when he tore, his ACL and LCL. RGIII underwent reconstructive knee surgery to repair both ligaments in January. After six months of physical therapy, he is already practicing with the first team in 7-on-7 drills.
While his superhuman recovery has impressed everyone, fantasy owners should be wary of drafting him too early as this is his second knee surgery since 2009. Reports out of Redskins camp suggest that RGIII is on track to start week 1 this season, and if he gets his way, he may take some snaps in some of their preseason games.
Even with his knee injuries, RG3 remains a solid #1 fantasy quarterback. While his injury pushes his draft position into the 6th round, he may be gone long before that in many fantasy draft formats.
