Despite missing the first preseason game with his new team, Buccaneers star cornerback Darrelle Revis is expected to play in the season opener against his former team, the New York Jets. Revis has been recovering from a torn left ACL and is making strides toward playing at 100%.
Last week he covered a wide receiver for the first time since his injury, and has continued to do so in one-on-one drills during Bucs’ training camp. Tampa Bay Head Coach Greg Schiano recognizes that there are still steps to be taken in Revis’ recovery, but believes they will go quickly as long as there are no major setbacks.
Tampa Bay ranked 32nd in pass defense last year, and surely hopes to strand a few wide receivers on “Revis Island” when the regular season comes around. The Buccaneers coaching staff expects Revis to be ready to go “fully” by week 1 and, assuming that the 28 year old veteran gets anywhere near his top form, the Buc’s defense will certainly reap the benefits.
