Draft Zone: 13th Ranked Tight End – Bears Martellus Bennett

The Chicago Bears Martellus Bennett is the 13th ranked tight end in this year’s 2013 fantasy draft standings. With an Average Draft Position (ADP) of 117, he’s likely to be taken in the middle of the 10th round of most 12 team fantasy drafts.

Bennett seems to be on the rise after a career year with the Giants, and his momentum should help him to progress through next season as well.

During the 2012 season, Bennett managed to haul in 55 receptions for 626 yards and 5 touchdowns (all career highs). The Bears have shown full confidence in the former late second round draft pick by signing him to a 4 year, $20.4 million contract after his breakout year.

The former Texas A&M standout has an opportunity to make a good impression on quarterback Jay Cutler before the regular season begins. The tight end position is usually relied upon to keep the quarterback out of trouble and Bennett will most likely take on that role.

Behind the consistent play of tight ends including Owen Daniels and Jimmy Graham, Bennett is one of the more risky picks this season. If Bennett can continue to grow and develop as an offensive weapon, then there’s no reason his stock should not rise to that of a top 10 caliber tight end. It should be worth it to draft Bennett in the 9th round in standard fantasy formats.
