The San Francisco 49ers Frank Gore is the 16th ranked running back in this year’s 2013 fantasy draft standings. With an Average Draft Position (ADP) of 31, he’s likely to be taken in the middle of the third round of most 12 team fantasy drafts.
Frank Gore has been consistently productive for the 49ers for years, eclipsing the 1,000 yard rushing mark in 6 out of his 8 seasons in San Francisco. In 2012, Gore rushed for 1214 yards off of 258 attempts (4.7 yards per carry), along with 9 total touchdowns (8 rushing and 1 receiving).
However, Gore has now reached the age of 30, making the chances of another stellar season occurring much less likely. It seems hard to believe that the veteran back will have a season much better or worse than that of last year, but his ranking of 16th on the list of tailbacks may be a little too generous.
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick is a big threat on the ground, which will most likely take away from Gore’s opportunities to rack up yardage. Due to the athletic quarterback running the show, barring a late breakout year, Gore should be expected to hover around 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Though he is ranked 16th on the list of running backs, Gore’s fantasy value may be getting too much praise. Frank Gore should be taken in the middle of the 4th round in standard 12 team fantasy formats.
