Foot Surgery to Keep MJD Sidelined Until May

RB – Maurice Jones-Drew –

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew will undergo foot surgery that will keep him off the field until May.

The Jags tip-toed around Jones-Drew’s injury for two months hoping that he would be able to make a comeback, but the whole debacle turned into a mind-numbing head game for fantasy owners.

The coaching staff expressed confidence that MJD would make a comeback this season, but he didn’t heal as quickly as expected.

This is going to do nothing but further strain the relationship between MJD and the Jags and a trade certainly isn’t out of the question.

Ravens Ray Rice Likely to Sit Out Week 17

RB – Ray Rice –

There’s a nasty rumor coming out of Cincinnati that Ravens starting running back Ray Rice will be rested during Baltimore’s season finale against the Bengals.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but it looks like the Ravens will start rookie running back Bernard Pierce in place of Rice.

This is the right move for the Ravens, but a blow to fantasy owners with something to play for during Week 17.

Expect an official announcement around 11:30 this morning, but it appears that Rice will be watching this game from the sidelines.

Steelers Send Wide Receiver Mike Wallace to Injured Reserve

WR – Mike Wallace –

The Steelers pulled the plug on wide receiver Mike Wallace for the final game of the season because of a hip injury.

Now out of the playoffs, the Steelers had nothing to gain by playing Wallace and risking further injury.

The question in Pittsburgh now becomes whether or not Wallace will play for Pittsburgh next year. Wallace is set to become an unrestricted free agent and it would be a surprise to everyone if the Steelers ponied up the money to sign him.

Patriots Tight End Rob Gronkowski Will Play Week 17

TE – Rob Gronkowski –

Rob Gronkowski fantasy owners have an interesting decision in front of them as the Patriots have announced that the team will start him for Week 17’s tilt against Miami.

Gronkowski hasn’t played since Week 11, but the Patriots seem anxious to get him out there before the playoffs start.

The question will be how much time he actually sees on the field. Even as a limited participant, Gronkowski is always a red zone threat.

It’s unlikely that too many fantasy owners have a much better tight end option waiting in the wings. If Gronkowski plays, fantasy owners need the roll the dice and give him the start against Miami.

Niners Tight End Vernon Davis not Expecting to Play Week 17

TE – Vernon Davis –

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis’ status for Sunday’s matchup against the Cardinals remains questionable after he sustained a concussion during the Niners’ 42-13 loss to the Seahawks last week.

Davis told reporters on Saturday that he did not expect to play.

The underperforming tight end was limited in practice this week and has yet to pass the necessary concussion “contact test” in order to ensure that he is game ready.

Davis’ performance this season has been nowhere near fantasy owners’ expectations. He’s only had one touchdown reception since week 3 and has failed to reach 100 yards receiving in every game but one this season.

The Niners remain cautiously optimistic that Davis will suit up but keep a backup tight end ready just in case. Even if Davis is cleared, he should only be considered a low-end option at this point due to his overall lack of production.

Packers Wide Receiver Randall Cobb Questionable for Week 17

WR – Randall Cobb –

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb was a limited practice participant on Thursday as he deals with an injured ankle.

Cobb’s had a breakout season for the Pack and they need him healthy for the playoffs. He leads the team with 80 receptions and 954 receiving yards and trails only James Jones in touchdown receptions with 8 on the season.

Cobb will be re-evaluated on Friday, so keep an eye on his status as the weekend approaches.

If Cobb plays, fantasy owners really can’t afford to keep him on the bench. But keep in mind, he may be limited by a Green Bay coaching staff that needs to keep him in good shape for the playoffs.
