Big Ben Out for Week 13, Charlie Batch Gets Another Start

 QB – Ben Roethlisberger –

As expected, fantasy owners will be without the services of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger until at least Week 14. This was the original timetable when Roethlisberger first went down against the Chiefs during Week 10.

There was a great deal of chatter during the week that Big Ben might give it a go during Week 13 against the Ravens, but the team never seriously expected that Ben would play.

This is tough news for the Steelers faithful, but encouraging news for Roethlisberger’s fantasy owners.

The banged up quarterback isn’t a lock for Week 14 at home against the Chargers, but his chances are probably better than fifty-fifty.

Green Bay RB Cedric Benson Undergoes Season Ending Surgery

RB – Cedric Benson –

Green Bay running back Cedric Benson is done for the 2012 fantasy football season. Even in dynasty leagues, it’s finally safe for fantasy owners to drop Benson once and for all.

Benson got injured way back on Week 5 and was always a long shot to return to the playing field. Benson turns 30 in less than a month and his prospects for the future look increasingly dim.

Green Bay’s rushing attack has been a train wreck ever since as Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy has fallen in love with the plodding and ineffective Alex Green.

As we have said since Benson first went down, fantasy owners need to avoid all Green Bay running backs until McCarthy comes to his sense and takes Alex Green out of the equation.

Jags Out of Options – Rashad Jennings Gets Week 13 Start

RB – Rashad Jennings –

The hits just keep coming for the Jacksonville Jaguars as they are now forced to insert running back Rashad Jennings back into the starting lineup.

Jennings gets the start after the season ended for Jalen Parmele on Sunday when he suffered a groin injury against Tennessee.

Jennings has just under 100 rushing attempts this season and none of them have been pretty. He’s averaging less than 2.9 yards-per-carry and has just two touchdowns on the season.

The Jaguars coaching staff indicates that Jennings will be splitting carries with Montell Owens and Jordan Todman. For fantasy owners, there are really no running backs worth owning out of Jacksonville.

49ers QB Colin Kaepernick Draws Week 13 Start

QB – Colin Kaepernick –

Looks like the stars are aligned for 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick as he was named the starter for Week 13 on the road against the Rams.

Niner’s Head Coach Jim Harbaugh keeps using the tired old line about the “hot hand,” but the bottom line is that Kaepernick brings more versatility and excitement to what was a bread and butter offense.

Ironically, Kaepernick saw his first significant playing time this year against the same Rams team during Week 10 that knocked Alex Smith out the game with a concussion.

Kaepernick entered that game and completed 11 passes for 117 yards and rushed 8 times for 66 yards and touchdown.

It’s been all downhill for Smith since that game and barring injury, he may not take a snap again this year.

Darren McFadden Back at Practice, Status Unclear for Week 13

RB – Darren McFadden –

Some good news for Darren McFadden owners – there was a DMC sighting at practice today.

His status is still very murky for Week 13 against the Browns, but this is the first sniff we’ve gotten from McFadden since Week 9 when he went down with a high ankle sprain.

If McFadden starts, owners will have no choice but to plug him back into fantasy lineups. This doesn’t mean that Marcel Reece will disappear from the radar this week.

Reece has proven his skills as a pass catcher and should be heavily involved in the Raiders offense for at least one more week, if not the rest of the season.

Mike Goodson also returned to Raiders practice this week, but his time on the field will be severely limited with the emergence of Marcel Reece.

Jets Defense Sneaky Start for Week 13

If your fantasy team is in desperation mode and you need a win to qualify for that playoff spot, we have a sneaky play for you. The New York Jets defense has the potential for a big fantasy output during Week 13 at home against Cardinals.

There’s no question that the Jets defense got ripped to shreds on Thanksgiving by Tom Brady and the Patriots, but Arizona QB Ryan Lindley and the Cardinals are a far cry from that New England team.

Lindley’s completion ratio is south of 56 percent with four interceptions, a lost fumble and no touchdowns.

Before getting beaten down by the Patriots, the Jets defense rang up double-digit fantasy points in back-to-back games against Seattle and St. Louis. They should be able do the same again against a listless Arizona offense during Week 13.
